MasterCard, Icelandair team up

Barclays and Icelandair have teamed up to offer a new co-branded MasterCard card. The new Icelandair MasterCard is linked to Icelandair’s rewards program. This alliance is the first partnership between Icelandair and Barclays.

Icelandair frequent flyers may choose a low annual fee card ($39/year) that rewards customers with 10,000 bonus points the first time they use the card, 2 points for every dollar spent with Icelandair and 1 point for every dollar spent on other purchases.

The companies are also offering a card with no annual fee that rewards customers with 5,000 miles the first time they use the card, 1 point for every dollar spent on Icelandair and 1 point for every $2 spent elsewhere. The APR is 13.99%.

“Icelandair is delighted to partner with Barclays to offer the best possible credit card to our international passengers,” said Gunnar Eklund, General Manager-The Americas. “We believe this will attract new customers for Icelandair in addition to serving the needs of our frequent flyers,” Eklund added.

Icelandair was founded in 1937 and has been operating regularly-scheduled flights between the U.S. and Europe since 1950, providing transatlantic service longer than any airline in existence today.
