The latest winner of Qatar Duty Free’s millionaire raffle draw has pledged to support local charities with his windfall.Qatari national Mr Mohammed Abdulla Mubarak Bughnaim, aged 42, emerged as the latest winner of Qatar Duty Free’s (QDF) jackpot draw held recently at Doha International Airport, when QDF Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker drew the lucky ticket.

Mr Bughnaim was presented with his money-spinning cheque worth QAR1 million (US$275,000) by Qatar Duty Free Assistant General Manager Krishna Kumari at the company’s offices in Doha.

The father-of-five had bought his lucky ticket at Doha International Airport shortly before catching a Qatar Airways flight to Dubai.

“When I was called by Qatar Duty Free to be told I had won the top prize, I thought it was a friend joking with me,” said Mr Bughnaim.

“But when the company’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Akbar Al Baker took the phone and explained I was the lucky winner, I was excited and immediately broke the news to my wife.

“I told my wife to be calm and not to tell anyone, but when the newspapers carried the story the following day, our friends and family came to know and it was a real cause for celebration.”

He added: “I now plan to pay off a big house loan and donate some of my winnings to local charities and give some money to my parents. I have been lucky and I want to be able to share my success with people close to me and support worthy causes.”

It was the fifth successful millionaire draw organised by Qatar Duty Free - a division of national airline Qatar Airways - which sold 3,000 tickets for QAR450 (US$125) each since the last draw in July 2005.

Al Baker said: “Mr Bughnaim has become our fifth millionaire in a draw that has grown from strength to strength over the past two years and we look forward to welcoming many more instant millionaires over the next few months and years to come.

“We strive to offer great value and a great shopping experience for our valued customers at Qatar Duty Free. The fact that we could offer such a large and exciting cash promotion reflects this determination.”
