St. Kitts alters music fest dates

Allister Williams, Executive Director of the St.
Kitts Music Festival, has announced that the ever-popular St. Kitts Music
Festival 2006 will be held from June 29th-July 2nd,
2006
instead of over the last full weekend in June, as is traditional. Next year’s Music
Festival will also mark the
10th anniversary of the event, first held in 1996.

The Music Festival
dates have been changed in order to avoid conflict with the Cricket Test
match
between the West Indies and India,
to be held on St. Kitts June 22-26, 2006.
This will be the first time in history that St. Kitts has hosted
such a
large international sporting event.

The
match is one of several scheduled between now and 2007 leading up to the
Cricket World Cup event which will feature St Kitts as one of the host
venues.

“The St. Kitts Music
Festival has evolved into one of the most enjoyable of its kind in the
Caribbean,” said Richard “Ricky” O.
Skerritt, Minister of
State in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture for St. Kitts.

“It a wonderful
mix of Caribbean and World
musical entertainment that also has a positive impact on our economy’s
tourism
sector as hotels, restaurants, taxis and other businesses see increased
business as a direct result.”
