Stagecoach Group is launching a new budget train service with fares starting at £1, in a bid to attract new passengers and fill otherwise empty seats.
The service, called megatrain.com, will launch on November 14th on South West Trains’ Portsmouth- London and Southampton-London route and will offer seats through a website and phone hotline.

Modelled on the group’s low-cost inter-city coach operation, customers will be able to make their booking online and can expect to receive their booking reference number, via email or mobile phone text message. No tickets will be necessary.

More than 3, 000 discounted seats will be made available every week on selected off trains on off peak services between Monday and Saturday.
