Run for your money

Runners from across the Caribbean are signing up for St Lucia’s first Sandals to Sandals 10km Race, in which prize money totalling EC$10,000 (£2128) is up for grabs.

So far more than 70 individuals have registered for the race, which takes place on Sunday, 27 November 2005. It starts at the Sandals Halcyon in Choc Bay, St Lucia and finishing 10km further north at the Sandals Grande St Lucian just before Pigeon Island.

Entry to the race is EC$5 (£1) for adults and EC$3 (£0.60) for the under 20s. Around 300 people are expected to compete in the event, which is being organised in association with the St Lucia Athletics Association.

Kashmie Ali, Regional Director of Sandals Resorts in the Eastern Caribbean, comments;
“Sandals has wanted to sponsor an event like this for a while, and we are delighted that the plans are now firmly underway. We actively encourage our staff to participate in sport: now we are urging the general public to get involved, too.

“The Sandals to Sandals 10k Race will put St Lucia on the running map. Similar events already take place on other Caribbean islands, and we look forward to welcoming runners from across the region to compete in our own 10k race.”
