Pennicook: ‘Elated’ With T&L Reader Poll Results
The island of Jamaica lays claim to four of the
best resorts in the entire Caribbean, according to the July “World’s Best” issue of
Travel & Leisure. For the 10th year in a row, T&L’s readers were polled about the
very best in the world of travel. Jamaica led the charge with four of the top 25
properties throughout the Caribbean. No other island nation claims more than two.Jamaica Inn, located in Ocho Rios secured 11th; Sandals Grande Beach & Villa Resort,
in Ocho Rios was the 21st most favorite hotel; Half Moon, in Montego Bay took the
23rd ranking and Ritz Carlton Golf & Spa Resort in Rose Hall completed the list as
the 25th most revered property in the Caribbean.
“The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), along with our partners, have worked hard to
promote Jamaica’s extensive variety of accommodations. We are absolutely elated to
see that some of our hotels have been represented in this reader’s choice poll,”
said Paul Pennicook, Director of Tourism for the JTB.
Nancy Novogrod, Editor-in-Chief, Travel + Leisure, is quoted in a release about the
July issue stating that, “Our readers’ opinions and travel choices so often mirror
the trends that we report on in the magazine. Since the survey launched ten years
ago, there have been significant shifts in reader taste.”
She cites traveller’s
rising interest in off-the-beaten path locations, something that bodes well for
Jamaica and is reflected in the island’s stature among the list of top hotels in the
Caribbean.
