Finnair to Double Network Bandwidth

SITA SC, the only global Communication Services Integrator
dedicated to the travel and transportation industry, today announced it
recently signed a deal with Finnair to migrate the airline’s existing network
infrastructure over to a SITA Internet Protocol (IP)-based Wide Area Network (WAN)
solution. All this is backed up by the highest levels of service, performance,
quality, data integrity and security.Communication services are usually delivered in airports using multiple, dedicated
resources (routers, ageing legacy platforms, per service connection circuits).
Through its Airport Hubs programme SITA is, uniquely, providing airport environments
where many airlines are “sharing” common facilities. The SITA SC Airport Hubs
consist of a WAN and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) infrastructure, deployed in
major airports worldwide, to deliver IP and legacy services over a shared
infrastructure. This offers an opportunity for cost savings and service
improvements.

“We are very satisfied, and frankly impressed by the exceptional quality of service
that SITA SC delivers on every level, from project management to system migration,”
said Kari Hänninen, Director, ICT Architectures Corporate Information Management,
Finnair. “SITA understand the airline industry better than any other vendor, and
leverages this knowledge by providing unique solutions tailored to our specific
needs. With SITA SC’s Airport Hubs programme we expect to double our network
bandwidth, for significantly lower cost than the old system.”

Because they are moving to an enhanced platform, Finnair can now introduce new
IP-based applications much faster and cost effectively than was possible in the
past. As a result of this deal, Finnair is becoming a more flexible airline,
effectively making them more competitive in the market.

“Our community role is to reduce communication-related costs for our members,” said
Assane Oueddo, Vice President Northern Europe, SITA SC. “Finnair is a prime example
of a long standing member who relies on SITA SC to move them to an enhanced
technology platform in a cost effective manner.”

The SITA SC’s IP WAN solution for Finnair is being implemented in over 80 locations
across three continents.
