Second Place for Sir Rocco in Iron Man Austria

Sir Rocco Forte successfully completed the Iron Man Austria in Klagenfurt last Sunday (3 July), securing second place in his age group (60 to 64 years).  He finished the 3.8-km swim, 180-km bike ride and full marathon in 11 hours, 40 minutes and 3 seconds.
Sir Rocco also competed in the CEO Ironman Challenge, a special category within the overall Iron Man Austria event, and was the winner of the over-50 age group.  This win qualified him for the Iron Man Hawaii event that takes place in October, but he will not be participating, saying, “I will not have time to take part later this year, as I will be focussing all my energies on Brown’s Hotel, which re-opens in October, and our two German properties opening in Frankfurt and Berlin next year.”

Sir Rocco had thrown down a challenge to the 15 other CEOs taking part that he would not be beaten and, thanks to an age-related handicapping system, he emerged victorious.  Had he lost, Sir Rocco had promised to match the money that his victor had raised for charity.  Sir Rocco himself was racing to raise money for the International Children’s Eye Centre at Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Passage Shelter for the Homeless.
