Amadeus Deploys Browser-Based Sales Solutions Globally

Amadeus today announced that it has deployed Vista and its sister product, Pro Web, at 100,000 points of sale around the world. Amadeus Vista is the first browser-based point of sale platform to allow travel professionals to focus on selling travel and developing customer relations instead of just making bookings. By the end of 2004, implementations had reached 94,500, 83.5% more than a year earlier (51,500) and today topped 100,000 at Lugares Viaggi, an Italian travel agent. Amadeus now has a browser-based sales solution in operation in 90 markets, across 5 continents.
“Reaching 100,000 points of sale is a major milestone for us and is testament to how quick and easy it is for travel agencies to implement this unique sales tool. We aim to bring the integrated content and efficiency of Amadeus Vista to over 180,000 travel agency points of sale by the end of 2005. By focussing on a single worldwide platform, we give our customers improved content access and accelerated product evolution,” says Claude Giafferri, Vice President, Managing Director, Travel Office Products & Solutions (TOPS) at Amadeus.

Sell more: Amadeus Vista’s open technology brings third-party and internet content into a single application at the travel agent’s point of sale. It then seamlessly integrates this content with the passenger name record (PNR) and transmits data to the agency’s back office. This comes on top of the 488 bookable airlines, over 29,000 car rental locations, over 53,000 hotels, 17 cruise lines, rail companies, insurance providers and ferry companies already in the Amadeus GDS, waiting for a sale at the click of a mouse. With Amadeus Vista, travel professionals can sell the world, not just a flight.Ê

Travel professionals sell faster with Amadeus Vista because it is packed with efficiency tools. The platform allows travel agents to choose between graphic or cryptic interfaces depending on how they prefer to work. New agents are competent on the graphical system very quickly and experienced agents can make optimal use of their knowledge by switching between graphic and cryptic interfaces, at any time during the sales process. According to a study carried out by Amadeus with its customers in the UK, Amadeus Vista allows travel agents to sell hotels up to 50% faster than with their previous system.

“We chose Amadeus Vista because it represents the best solution to carry out daily activities and book air and non-air offers,” says Serena Baccarini, one of the three owners of Lugares Viaggi, “We foresee considerable cost reductions and better customer care service compared with the previous system. Migration was quick and easy with no interruption to our everyday work.”
