Mauritius Calls for Trade Support
The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has issued a statement calling for travel agents and tour operators to continue supporting the island in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. Dr Karl Mootoosamy, MTPA director said: “We can confirm that all business and tourism related activities are going on as usual and no single case of destruction or loss of life has been reported across the country.”
Mauritius launched a nationwide press push in November, with a major television advertising campaign beginning on 3 January. The MTPA’s campaign will position the country’s ‘beyond the beach’ offerings, so conveying the wide range of holiday options available on the island.
