America West Airlines today
announced it has been informed by the Transport Workers Union (TWU) that
its dispatchers have voted to ratify a four-year contract. Details of the
contract are not being disclosed.
America West Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Doug Parker stated,
“America West’s operational integrity is supported by the finest team of
dispatch professionals in the industry, and we are extremely pleased they
have ratified this new agreement. We appreciate the leadership of the
negotiating committee, and especially note the efforts of Shirley Kaufman,
vice president, human resources and John Plowman, president of the TWU
Local 542. In addition, we appreciate the assistance provided by the
National Mediation Board.”

“This ratified agreement is a result of tremendous effort and
understanding by both the TWU and America West negotiating team members.
The majority of Dispatchers at America West understood that this was the
best agreement obtainable at this time and look forward to the
implementation period,” said John Plowman, president of TWU Local 542.
