America West Airlines announced
today that its Education Foundation has awarded a record 90 college
scholarships to dependents of America West employees for the pursuit of a
higher education. The students receiving scholarships reside in 11 states
throughout the markets America West serves and were chosen for their
exceptional academic performance, leadership in the community,
co-curricular activities and the recommendation of a principal or
counselor. “The incredible success of America West’s 10th Annual Education Foundation
Golf Tournament and the generous donations from our employees allowed the
Education Foundation to provide a record amount of scholarships this
year,” said C.A. Howlett, senior vice president, public affairs, “The
Education Foundation demonstrates America West’s commitment to education
and we are so pleased to award $90,000 in scholarships to help the
children of our employees build a brighter future.”

The Education Foundation also provides community education grants to
nonprofit organizations in order to enhance the quality of life in the
communities served by America West. Over the past five years, the
Education Foundation has given nearly $580,000 through grants and
scholarships to support student’s academic endeavors and make a difference
in the community.
