Riviera Maya Hotel Association appoints new President

The Riviera Maya Government Tourist Office has today announced that the Riviera Maya Hotel Association has appointed Mr. Jean Agarrista as its new President, effective April 1, 2004.  Mr. Agarrista will serve in this position for two full years, ending March 30, 2006.
Mr. Agarrista replaces outgoing President Jose Chapur and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Association.  He is currently General Director of the 5-star Occidental Royal Hideaway Playacar in Playa del Carmen, a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World.  Prior to that, he spent thirteen years with Occidental Hotels and Resorts, most recently as General Director of Occidental’s seven 4- and 5-star hotels and resorts in Costa Rica.

He had also worked as General Director for five Occidental properties in Costa Rica, Spain and the Dominican Republic.  Before joining Occidental, Mr. Agarrista was Director of Food & Beverage at the Hotel Tres Reyes in Pamplona, Spain and Banquet Director and had also been Banquet Manager and Food & Beverage Director at the Hotel Holiday Inn in Madrid.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree as well as a degree in Hospitality from the University of Bordeaux III in Talence, France and received the Official Cross from the Order of Civil Merit from the King of Spain in 1999.
