Datalex Gains Foothold in Australian Travel Market

Datalex

announced today that its technology has been chosen for American Express Australia’s Travel Advantage site to enable American Express Cardmembers to book air travel online.

“This is the first implementation of our fares and booking engine technology suite in the Australian market where it gives American Express’ Card members instant access to domestic bookings and to a wide range of American Express special fares for international itineraries and provides comprehensive flight searching and booking facilities,” said Gill Hazel, Datalex general manager - Australia.

Datalex’s solution delivers a powerful private fares and pricing system that gives American Express Cardmembers easy and quick access to American Express-only fares as well as standard airline fares. The combined fares display shows all available flights in the appropriate fare classes, and they can be compared and selected according to the traveler’s preference. The system also checks fare rules and only returns validated flight options for the available seats, saving time and resulting in a better-informed choice.

“Utilising a direct fare feed capability, this solution allows American Express and its preferred suppliers to respond quickly to changing market conditions by bringing new fares into the market instantly, avoiding traditional delivery mechanisms,” added Gill Hazel. “Datalex has already deployed this leading technology combination to top travel distributors and airlines throughout the world, providing them with a competitive advantage. I am very pleased our first Australian customer is such a prestigious organisation. American Express is well placed to maximise the enormous benefits offered by this solution, including growth of international travel sales via the web.”

In this solution, Datalex’s BookIt! Fares? is complemented by BookIt! Matrix?, Datalex’s core integration platform for travel reservations systems supporting multiple customer and professional storefronts and connectivity to a wide range of inventory, including all major global distribution systems and other sources. With Matrix at the core of this solution, American Express can add more applications and functionality to suit its business model and growth requirements.

“Datalex is poised to take more market share as changing trends in distribution cause agencies and intermediaries to forge independent business strategies. The Australian market has responded very favourably to our Fares solution, which is a proven system currently being utilised by numerous European clients, including Thomas Cook, Travel Bag, Trailfinders, Expedia in UK and Germany and many more blue chip customers around the world,” added Hazel.
