Ticketless travel goes international

Electronic ticketing is to be introduced for the first time on a British Airways international route from 27 January, cutting time and hassle at check-in.

It will be available initially on all routes between the UK and Germany, with the aim of extending it to other European destinations later
Checking-in for a flight is swifter and simpler with E-ticket as it reduces the check-in time to less than one minute. It enables passengers with hand baggage to make a booking, go to the airport and check-in at a self-service machine using their credit card or Executive Club card for identification.

New self-service machines have been installed at airports in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart. E-ticket will also be available on all internal German routes with, British Airways’ partner Deutsche BA.

Kieron Gavan, British Airways Head of Distribution for UK Sales said: “Our research has shown that passengers using E-ticket on our domestic network have found it easy to use, that it handles the check-in process more quickly and is more flexible and convenient for passengers.

“This is the first time we have used it on an international route and if it proves successful, we plan to extend it to other countries in Europe and the East coast of America.”
