AW² and Coucoo Cabanes Unveil Four New Eco-Cabins at Les Grands Lacs Estate in Franche-Comté, France
Internationally acclaimed architecture and interior design studio AW², led by Reda Amalou and Stéphanie Ledoux, has delivered four new eco-conscious cabins for Coucoo Cabanes at their Grands Lacs estate, nestled within a 150-hectare natural setting in Chassey-lès-Montbozon, Bourgogne Franche-Comté.
Designed as a seamless extension of the environment, these three-level cabins are crafted to immerse guests in nature while offering modern comfort. Elevated on stilts, each cabin features a panoramic terrace, a naturally ventilated bedroom with expansive bay windows, and a Nordic bath perched high among the treetops—offering breathtaking views and a unique opportunity to unwind in harmony with the surrounding forest and lakes.
The new structures were developed in just four months at MCF Bois, a local timber workshop, using Douglas fir sourced within a 30-kilometer radius. Prefabricated off-site, the cabins were then installed with minimal environmental impact, underscoring the project’s commitment to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.

The interiors are furnished with bespoke wooden elements designed by AW² and produced by MCF Bois. Thoughtfully integrated furnishings—including a central bed that doubles as a room divider—optimize space and enhance the visual connection to the outdoors.
Partnering with brands such as Tediber, Tikamoon, and Altipure, the cabins also feature sustainable FF&E and cutting-edge water treatment technologies. The result is a luxury hospitality experience rooted in local craftsmanship, eco-responsibility, and timeless design.
This initiative is the first of several collaborations between AW² and Coucoo Cabanes, a pioneering force in progressive tourism with five estates across France. Together, they redefine wilderness stays, setting a new benchmark for sustainable luxury.
