AirAsia resumes flights to Tianjin

AirAsia has resumed its Kuala Lumpur –Tianjin flight following the temporary suspension of its services in November 2009 due to adverse weather conditions in North China. The flight to Tianjin resumed on 1st February 2010 marking the start of a new five-time weekly service, on a more economical aircraft- the Airbus A330 with two-class configuration of 28 premium seats and 355 economy seats. The change of aircraft from the previous Airbus A340 with a total of 30 premium and 256 economy seats used before the suspension proved more economical with 34% increase in capacity. In fact, AirAsia recorded a fantastic load of a total of 383 passengers from Kuala Lumpur to Tianjin when the flights resumed in early February.

Australian passengers can access the Tianjin service from Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia X flights to KL from Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth.

Ms. Kathleen Tan, Regional Head of Commercial of AirAsia Group said, “The Kuala Lumpur - Tianjin route was launched in April 2009, servicing direct flights to Tianjin as part of AirAsia’s strategic expansion plans in North China. With a more economical A330 aircraft, combined with a better flight schedule, AirAsia will now offer its guests convenient ground transport access to connect from Tianjin to the Chinese capital Beijing and its other attractive neighbouring cities. The recommencement of the route is also timely with the upcoming Chinese New Year where guests would be able to reconnect with their families and relatives or even take a short holiday. ”

“AirAsia has also been very aggressive and innovative in promoting our route to Tianjin. In conjunction with our re-launch, AirAsia is pleased to kick start our new branding consumer project- “Friends of AirAsia” with our first collaboration with Universal Music’s award winning popular Taiwan pop artist; 21 years old Liang Wen Yin, famously known as Rachel Liang. Rachel, recognized as “China’s most popular female new artist 2010” will have a wide appeal to the youth market. Having Rachel on board will help us tap the young generation in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and South East Asia including Singapore and Malaysia where she is highly popular and where AirAsia has the best connectivity. AirAsia believes the high population in Beijing would be the right choice and supporting her upcoming “Love is in the Air Tour” in the region where we fly to would further lift our brand to the next level. As a tour sponsor, we will offer Liang Wen Yin fans a chance to win free flights to Tianjin in an effort to connect with our guests through the language of music which is very much one of the key essence of AirAsia’s origins. We are proud to be serving Tianjin once again; and expect to see excellent traffic from Asia, Europe and Australia feeding into our flights connecting to China via our Kuala Lumpur international hub. And similarly, we look forward to welcoming guests from China to be part of our extensive network across Asean, Australia, India, and Europe,” she added.
