Access Madeira’s world-class golf courses with unique passport

The Madeira Golf Passport (MGP) is the result of a partnership between the Madeira Promotion Bureau and the three golf courses in Madeira islands: Santo da Serra Golf Club, Palheiro Golf, and Porto Santo Golf. Launched in 2016, its aim is to promote and establish the archipelago as a premier destination for golf enthusiasts.

With this goal in mind, the brand has consolidated the offering of this sport in Madeira by creating a unique passport, which currently allows golfers to play at any of the regional courses by purchasing a package of three, four, or five rounds.

Eight years after its implementation, the Madeira Golf Passport has become an essential element of the islands’ identity and is now a recognised brand in strategic markets where the archipelago is perceived as an exceptional year-round golf destination that continues to expand.

As indicated by the most recent data from the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira, in the year referenced, the three Madeira golf courses totalled 75,072 rounds—a record figure for the archipelago, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 8.3%. Revenues also rose to €3.8 million, marking a 22.1% increase compared to 2022.

The Courses
The uniqueness and excellence of the facilities at the three regional golf courses justify this ongoing success, making Madeira a one-of-a-kind golf destination in the world:

Porto Santo Golf
Designed by the renowned Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros, Porto Santo Golf offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and a challenging game over 6,434 metres. Each round is an adventure spanning 18 holes, guiding golfers along the north and south coasts of the island, showcasing basalt cliffs and panoramic views of sandy dunes and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

Since its inauguration in 2004, this paradise for golf lovers has made significant strides towards sustainability, having recently received certification from the GEO Foundation, an international label that recognises good environmental practices.

Palheiro Golf
Palheiro Golf is another iconic course in Madeira, located in the heart of the Palheiro Nature Estate, just 10 minutes from the capital. Its privileged location offers golfers panoramic views over the Desertas Islands and the Funchal amphitheatre, ensuring an unparalleled visual spectacle over 18 holes.

Sustainability is also a priority at Palheiro Golf, which is currently in the process of obtaining certification from the GEO Foundation.

Santo da Serra Golf Club
Equally stunning is the Santo da Serra Golf Club, which has been providing truly sublime experiences to its visitors since 1937. With 27 holes divided into three loops, this course, redesigned in 1991 by architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., is like a botanical garden overlooking the bay of Machico and the Desertas Islands, challenging golfers to surpass themselves with each stroke.

Commitment to environmental preservation is also a hallmark of this club, which features an innovative irrigation system that has significantly reduced water consumption.
