Wildfires Increasingly Disrupt Camping Plans, Especially in the Pacific Northwest
The Dyrt, the No. 1 app for camping availability, photos and reviews, has found that 18% of campers reported that wildfires or natural disasters disrupted their camping plans in 2023. That’s three times more than the 6% who said their plans were disrupted in 2019, and indicates a steady rise over the past five years.
Maui and Hawaiʻi Island Wildfire Updates
Wildfires are continuing to burn in multiple areas of Maui and within the Mauna Kea Resort area on Hawaiʻi Island. These fires have resulted in the evacuations of thousands of residents and visitors, and multiple closures of major roadways.
Nova Scotia Sending Crews to Help Newfoundland and Labrador Battle Wildfires
Nova Scotia has answered the call to help fight large wildfires in Newfoundland. “I’m proud of our Department firefighters for answering the call of duty, and I know their service is greatly appreciated by our neighbours in Newfoundland,” said Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables. “We are always happy to help fire crews in other places when our resources allow, safe in the knowledge that our help will be returned when we need it.”
