Aloft to open on Dubai’s The Palm
Starwood has signed an agreement to open a 192-room Aloft on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah. Scheduled to open in 2017, Aloft Dubai, The Palm will be the brand’s first resort in the Middle East, when it opens its doors as the first mid-market hotel brand on the island.

Shangri-La sets its sights on Palm Jumeirah
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and Dubai-based real estate developer Nakheel have signed a letter of intent for Shangri-La to manage a 290-room hotel in The Palm Tower on Palm Jumeirah. The parties expect to sign a comprehensive hotel management agreement for the property in the coming weeks.

Dubai World takes control of Atlantis
Dubai World subsidiary Istithmar World is acquiring the remaining stake in the Atlantis hotel for $250 million. The company confirmed it has completed the purchase of Kerzner International Holdings Limited’s 50 percent interest in Atlantis, making it is the sole owner of the property.
Kerzner in talks to defer payments
Kerzner International Holdings, the company that built the Atlantis resorts in Dubai and the Bahamas, has been in talks with creditors in order to defer their debt repayments of $2.78bn which were due next month, according to reports.
