South Africa Airlink to finally establish flights to St Helena
South Africa Airlink will offer scheduled commercial air services to St Helena when it starts flights between South Africa and the island later this year. This follows a period of contractual negotiations between St Helena government and the airline.
St Helena inches closer to commercial air service
The government of Saint Helena has announced that SA Airlink has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the provision of a scheduled commercial air service to the island. SA Airlink is a privately owned airline registered in South Africa.
South African Airways launches historic biofuel departure
South African Airways made history earlier when a plane going to Cape Town from Johannesburg became Africa’s first to fly on jet fuel made from tobacco plants. Boeing 737-800 flights on SAA and low-cost subsidiary Mango between Johannesburg and Cape Town were the first sustainable biofuel flights to take place on the African continent.
Etihad welcomes South African Airways to Abu Dhabi
Etihad Airways is now able to provide enhanced access to and from South Africa following the launch of a new daily service between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi by its codeshare partner, South African Airways. A delegation of senior SAA management, South African government officials and visiting travel trade and media representatives, was welcomed to Abu Dhabi when flight SA 278 touched down on schedule at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 20:25 last night.
SAA resumes daily Joburg - New York service
South African Airways will resume its daily nonstop flights between Johannesburg, South Africa, and New York-JFK International Airport, on March 7th. The resumption of the nonstop service on the northbound flight from Johannesburg to New York-JFK will reduce the overall travel time on the route by nearly 90 minutes.
Etihad Airways reaffirms commitment to South Africa Airways partnership
Etihad Airways and South African Airways have announced a major expansion of their strategic partnership, marking a new era of cooperation between the two national flag carriers. As part of the extended cooperation, South African Airways will launch a daily service between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi on March 29th 2015, which will complement Etihad Airways’ existing flights between the two cities to offer a combined double-daily frequency on the route.

South African Airways has launched a brand new trade website aimed at providing trade partners with up-to-date information on South African’s national airline. The site has been designed to serve as a useful one-stop-shop for the trade to use and includes details on SAA’s routes and fleet, plus SAA contact information, FAQs as well as the latest news from the airline.
SAA brings Airbus A330-200 to London-Johannesburg route
From March 28th South African Airways will be operating a newer aircraft, the Airbus A330-200 on scheduled flights between London Heathrow and Johannesburg. The newer aircraft replaces the current A340-600 used on the route and will operate on SA235, the first of SAA’s two daily departures at 19.00 and selected SA237 flights, which departs at 21:00.
