Scenic has announced the appointment of James Griffiths as the captain of Scenic Eclipse. Branded by the cruise line as the world’s first discovery yacht, the vessel is expected to launch in August.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has been forced to delay the launch of its first ocean-going ship for a second time. The company blamed the “continuing financial issues” at the Uljanik shipyard in Pula, Croatia, pointing in particular to a strike by specialist engine and systems commissioning workers.

Following interest in Scenic’s soon-to- launch six-star Scenic Eclipse, the company has announced its flagship will be joined by a sister ship, Scenic Eclipse II. Scenic Eclipse II will further strengthen Scenic’s position as the leading innovator in the cruise industry, setting an unparalleled benchmark in design, luxury and technology.

Its recent purchase and current $4 million-plus rebuild of the newly-named Scenic Tsar will offer guests an intimate environment, replete with spacious accommodations, satellite TV, private balconies on 93% of the staterooms and suites, wellness area, gym, sauna, two bars and the superior level of service and all-inclusive focus available on the European itineraries.
