IATA AGM 2014: oneworld celebrates Gulf’s newest hub
oneworld will be making a splash at this year’s IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will see leaders of the world’s airline industry gather in Doha this weekend. Marking the occasion, oneworld is offering a discounted price for its Visit Middle East pass.
SriLankan Airlines set for oneworld membership
SriLankan Airlines becomes part of oneworld from midnight tonight, offering the full range of services and benefits of the world’s fastest growing and highest rated global airline alliance. It becomes the first carrier from the Indian subcontinent to join any of the global airline alliances - and completes oneworld’s biggest expansion programme since the it was launched 15 years ago.
Walsh to take up role as chairman of oneworld
Willie Walsh, chief executive of International Airlines Group has been nominated by the governing board of oneworld, the leading global airline alliance, to serve as its chairman for the year ahead. He succeeds American Airlines’ chairman Tom Horton, who has filled the role since December 2011.
SriLankan Airlines set for oneworld membership
SriLankan Airlines will become a full member of oneworld, offering the alliance’s complete range of services and benefits with effect from Thursday May 1st 2014 – as the first carrier from the Indian subcontinent to become part of any global airline alliance. The national airline of Sri Lanka received clearance to board oneworld, the world’s leading quality airline alliance, after successfully completing a thorough review of its readiness conducted by Cathay Pacific Airways, which is sponsoring its entry into the alliance, with the oneworld central team.
oneworld offers training in six languages
oneworld now offers its online training modules for travel agents in six languages, with the addition of versions on Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese and Spanish alongside the established English. The oneworld Academy offers e-learning tools to enable travel agents the world over to learn all about the key aspects of the alliance.
US Airways confirmed for oneworld entry
US Airways will join oneworld with effect from March 31st 2014, following completion of its merger with alliance founding member American Airlines. All its regional affiliates, operating under the US Airways Express brand, will also transition to oneworld at the same time.
Qatar Airways joins oneworld
Qatar Airways has joined oneworld alliance, adding one of the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated airlines to the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated global airline alliance. Since them oneworld has also welcomed Brazil’s TAM Airlines, US Airways and SriLankan Airlines, completing the biggest membership expansion in oneworld’s history.
TAM Airlines to join oneworld in March 2014
TAM Airlines has confirmed it will join oneworld March 31st next year, adding the leading carrier in Brazil to the world’s leading quality global airline alliance. Confirmation of its oneworld joining date comes on the same day that LAN Colombia – which is, like TAM, a company related to LATAM Airlines Group - becomes part of oneworld, offering the alliance’s full range of services and benefits.
TAM Airlines to join oneworld in March
LAN Colombia formally joined oneworld on Tuesday, the first of the merged LATAM airlines to join the alliance. TAM Airlines, another member of LATAM Airlines Group, will become a member in March.
oneworld launches global booking app for tablets
oneworld has become the first airline alliance to enable customers to plan and book multi-airline round-the-world trips via their tablet computers. The development comes as part of a series of upgrades to the alliance’s online booking engine for its flagship oneworld Explorer fare, which is among the most popular multi-airline tickets worldwide.
Qatar Airways set to join oneworld in October
Qatar Airways will become a full member of oneworld with effect from October 30th 2013, adding one of the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated airlines to the world’s leading quality airline alliance. The carrier will become the only one of the big three Gulf carriers to join any of the global airline alliances.
Finnair looks to boost Japan options with new deal
The first step has been taken to enable Finnair to join British Airways and Japan Airlines in their successful joint business on flights between Europe and Japan. The three airlines intend to cooperate commercially by sharing revenue and by coordinating flight schedules and fares in order to offer greater benefits to customers travelling between Europe and Japan.
