Reed Travel Exhibitions has signed a global agreement designating oneworld as its exclusive airline alliance partner for 2016, in what is believed to be the biggest yet partnership of its kind. It will see the world’s leading organiser of travel and tourism events offer clients attending these events attractive discounts on the worldwide network of the most highly prized global airline alliance.
Qatar Airways has further enhanced its ties with oneworld partner Royal Jordanian, through the launch of a new codeshare agreement, which is set to further expand travel opportunities for both airlines’ customers. Through the new agreement, Qatar Airways’ passengers travelling between Doha and Amman in Jordan, on both Royal Jordanian and Qatar Airways, will benefit from the same airline code and a streamlined level of service from these oneworld partners.
Ivan Chu, chief executive of Cathay Pacific Airways, has been nominated by the governing board of oneworld to serve as its chairman for the year ahead. He succeeds Willie Walsh, chief executive of IAG, the parent of oneworld members British Airways and Iberia. As oneworld governing board chairman, Ivan Chu will act as “first among equals” of the chief executive of the alliance’s member airlines in oneworld governance.
Bangkok Airways is the latest airline to start participating in Global Explorer, the round-the-world fare offered by oneworld member airlines and selected partners outside the global alliance. It is the first time that Bangkok Airways’ flights have been made available through a round-the-world fare. Global Explorer, one of the most popular round-the-world fares available globally, offers simple, flexible, and great value travel around-the-world.
Qatar Airways has announced the further expansion of its codeshare agreements with both Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines, enhancing connectivity around the globe for the travelling public between these oneworld member airlines. Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways enhance their code-share partnership from Doha to Muscat and São Paulo.
oneworld has been named the World’s Leading Airline Alliance for the 12th year in a row by World Travel Awards during a Gala Ceremony in Anguilla. The World Travel Awards, which has been described by the Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars of the travel industry”, presented its top prizes at a glittering ceremony in Anguilla last night.
oneworld today adds two more benefits for the most loyal customers of its member airlines – priority baggage delivery for frequent flyers with oneworld Emerald and Sapphire tier status and an additional checked baggage allowance for Sapphire cardholders. Both new privileges are in addition to the benefits already offered to frequent flyers with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status when flying on any oneworld member airline in any class.
oneworld has unveiled a series of significant upgrades to oneworld events, its one-stop, easy-to-use travel service for the conventions, conferences, exhibitions and special events markets. Key improvements include the removal of bookings fees for flight reservations made via oneworld events’ dedicated website and the availability of oneworld events flight discounts via designated travel agencies.
Qantas, British Airways and Cathay Pacific have opened a new Business Lounge for passengers flying on oneworld member airlines from Los Angeles’ Tom Bradley International Terminal. Today, the new Business Lounge can accommodate 400 customers. When its final phase is completed early next year, it will seat 600.
