Tourism sector urges doubling of Queensland’s national parks ahead of 2032 Brisbane Olympics
Prominent Queensland tourism and conservation organisations have united to urge the Australian government to financially commit to doubling the size of protected areas in order to boost tourism and local economies ahead of 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
IOC to award Olympics 2024 and 2028 to Paris and Los Angeles
The International Olympic Committee has agreed to award both the Olympic Games 2024 and 2028 at the same time – with either Paris or Los Angeles going first. The other city will take the 2028 Games.
Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympic Games off to a flying start
The first visit of the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission for the second Winter Youth Olympic Games wrapped up today in Lillehammer, Norway. Chaired by IOC member and USA ice hockey Olympic champion Angela Ruggiero, the Commission was impressed with the early progress made by the Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee since the city won the bid in December 2011 and the strong government and National Olympic Committee support pledged from the outset.
Brazil’s key cities gearing up for the 2016 Olympics
With the London 2012 Olympics over, the spotlight has started to shift to Brazil, which will be hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Brazil reported increases of 9.9 percent in revenue per available room (RevPAR) for the first seven months year to date, led by 14.5-percent increase in average daily rate (ADR) in local currency, according a recent report.
