Hilton Worldwide today announced the opening of the new 298-room Hilton Barra hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – the company’s first hotel in this booming metropolis.

Holiday Inn Express opens new property in Cartagena, Colombia
InterContinental Hotels Group has confirmed the opening of the Holiday Inn Express Cartagena Bocagrande hotel in Cartagena, Colombia. The new-build, 200-room hotel is the second IHG property in the city of Cartagena and the 12th property in Colombia. The new Holiday Inn Express hotel is conveniently located in Bocagrande, the most modern area of Cartagena, which is home to numerous leisure attractions such as hotels, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and art galleries.
Mantis plans new hotel in Saint Helena
Mantis have been awarded the contract to develop and manage a new four star hotel on the island of St Helena, a British overseas territory located in the South Atlantic Ocean. This is off the back of the news which also broke this week that Comair have been awarded the first ever scheduled air services between Johannesburg and St Helena Airport.

IHG signs for Crowne Plaza in Medellin, Colombia
InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a new-build, 199-room Crowne Plaza hotel in Medellin, Colombia. The Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts brand is one of the fastest growing hotel brands in the world, with nearly 400 hotels open across more than 60 countries. The hotel will be located in Medellin’s upscale El Poblado neighbourhood, occupying one of two towers in the Palmanova luxury, mixed-use development and connected to the Palma Real Multiplaza.

Radisson expands in Latin America with Arequipa property
The historic Presidente Hotel in Peru is set to undergo a complete renovation and will reopen as the Radisson Hotel Arequipa at the end 2015. “As we continue to expand the Radisson brand in Latin America, it is important that we identify and develop in key locations that cater to both business and leisure guests,” said Javier Rosenberg, chief operating officer, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Americas.
