DoubleTree by Hilton expands portfolio in Spain
DoubleTree by Hilton has opened the doors to its latest upscale property in Spain with a hotel situated in the heart of charming Girona. URH Hotel Girona has undergone a refresh and is now operating as the DoubleTree by Hilton Girona under a franchise agreement with Hilton Worldwide. The hotel will continue to be owned and operated by URH & Co. Hoteliers under the new leadership of general manager Pere Vila.
Marriott brings Residence Inn brand to Sarajevo
Marriott International continues to expand in Eastern Europe with the opening of its first hotel in Bosnia & Herzegovina, the 75-suite Residence Inn Sarajevo. The hotel, operated by an affiliate of US-based Interstate Hotels & Resorts, is the first internationally-branded hotel in the country and fills a gap in the extended stay market with spacious suites and studios that enable guests to thrive on long stays.
Wyndham signs Lester Hotels for Ramada UK expansion
Wyndham Hotel Group has announced the signing of a development agreement with Lester Hotels Group Limited, which will see 20 Ramada hotels open across the UK over the next ten years. The first two hotels, Ramada Resort Cwrt Bleddyn and Ramada Leicester Stage, are expected to begin welcoming guests from next month, taking the number of Ramada properties open across the country to 40.
Brits find Hilton Garden Inn to their taste
New research by Hilton Garden Inn into the nation’s eating habits reveals that a hearty cooked breakfast has been voted the number one ‘treat’ meal by Brits, overtaking classics such as curry, roast dinner and fish and chips. The study of 2,000 adults reveals that more than a quarter rated a cooked breakfast as their favourite blow-out meal, with twenty-nine per cent admitting to tucking into at least one a week.

Rocco Forte secures funding from Italian sovereign wealth fund
Rocco Forte Hotels has announced a strategic partnership with Fondo Strategico Italiano Spa, the Italian State-backed sovereign fund 80 per cent controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and 20 per cent by Bank of Italy. It has a paid-up share capital of €4.4 billion. FSI will inject £60 million into Rocco Forte and Family in exchange for an equity stake of 23 per cent, valuing the enlarged equity at £260 million.

In cooperation with Regional Hotel Chain, Russia’s rapidly growing hotel property developer, IHG is pleased to introduce Holiday Inn Express Voronezh – Kirova which marks the debut of the brand in the region and will open its doors in just a few weeks’ time.
Tune Hotels reveals £200m UK investment plans
Global hotel chain Tune Hotels - part of the Tune Group, the private investment group of Tony Fernandes, founder and Group chief executive of low-cost airline AirAsia - has unveiled plans to open up to 25 new properties by 2020, amounting to a further £200m in the UK. The announcement comes as the select-service hotel group opens the doors to its sixth UK property in Newcastle this week, and sees the UK as its strategic hub for expansion into Europe.
