Dusit International has signed a management agreement with Myanmar V-Pile Group to operate the Dusit Thani Yangon. Located just 15 minutes by car from Yangon International Airport, and approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the city’s main tourist attraction, the Shwedagon Pagoda, the new property sits at the heart of land earmarked by the Myanmar government to become the former capital’s new Central Business District.

Sanctum Inle Resort set for October opening in Myanmar
The first upscale hotel to come on line in one of Myanmar’s most compelling tourist destinations will officially debut October 1st when 94-room Sanctum Inle Resort holds its grand opening on the shores of Inle Lake. An Olympic-sized swimming pool overlooking the lake, the 150 square meter presidential Sanctuary Suite and a Shan and international cuisine restaurant, The Refectory, are among the new features to be unveiled as part of the Brigitte Dumont de Chassart-designed resort’s grand opening.
Vietjet launches new route to Yangon, Myanmar
Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company has officially launched the operation of its international flight route from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to Yangon, Myanmar. The route will initially operate five round trips per week with a flight duration of two hours 15 minutes per section. Vietjet currently operates two daily flights from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City.
Boeing delivers first ever all-new plane to Myanmar
Boeing and Myanmar National Airlines have celebrated the delivery of the airline’s first Next-Generation 737-800 leased from GE Capital Aviation Services, the commercial aircraft leasing arm of GE. The celebration also marked the first all-new Boeing airplane to be delivered to any Myanmar-based airline.
Myanmar takes step out of the cold with Garuda Indonesia deal
Garuda Indonesia and Myanmar Airways International have concluded a codeshare agreement. The signing of the agreement was carried out by Garuda Indonesia executive vice president, sales and marketing, Erik Meijer and Myanmar Airways International managing director Si Thu. Under the agreement, Garuda Indonesia will place its GA marketing code on Myanmar Airways International’s flights between Bangkok-Yangon and Singapore-Yangon.
Hilton enters Myanmar with Nay Pyi Taw opening
Hilton Worldwide has made its debut in Myanmar with the opening of Hilton Nay Pyi Taw, in the country’s capital city. Set amid lush tropical landscaped gardens, the 202-key Hilton Nay Pyi Taw spans more than 100 acres of land and is situated within the developing Dekhina Thiri Township.
Malaysia Airlines resumes codeshare with Myanmar Airways
Malaysia Airlines and Myanmar Airways International signed a new code share agreement that will take effect starting February 15th 2014. Booking for the service will be made available on February 10th 2014. The arrangement would increase the national carrier’s access to Yangon, from the current 14 flights weekly to 19 flights weekly.
Hilton moves into Myanmar with Yangon property
Hilton Worldwide has marked its entry into the Burmese market with the signing of a management agreement with LP Holding to manage Hilton Yangon in Kyauktada Township, Yangon, Myanmar. The first Hilton Worldwide property in Myanmar, the 300-room Hilton Yangon will also be the first Hilton Hotels & Resorts branded hotel and is scheduled to open in 2014.
Myanmar welcomed back into UNWTO fold
Myanmar president U Thein Sein has confirmed the country will initiate the process of restoring its membership of United Nations World Tourism Organisation. Officials in the country argue the destination is unique in that it can offer a relatively untouched, authentic experience that few countries around the world can still truly deliver.
