Cosmos Holidays begins transition to Monarch brand
Cosmos Holidays is changing its name to Monarch. The tour operator, which currently trades as Cosmos Holidays, will start to transition to the Monarch brand from today. Avro and Somewhere2Stay, which sell flights and hotel accommodation respectively through the travel trade, will also operate under the Monarch brand.
Monarch appoints Aviator to handle Birmingham operations
Monarch, the leading scheduled airline to leisure destinations, has changed its ground handling services at Birmingham airport - a key base. Aviator, an already well established ground handling service provider to Birmingham airport will manage all ground handling operations at the airport for Monarch.
Monarch Airlines launches two new routes to Israel
Monarch Airlines has announced two new scheduled routes to Israel from London Luton Airport. The airline will start flying to Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion Airport) and Ovda Airport in December of this year, with tickets on sale now. The airline previously operated flights to Israel as part of its charter service more than a decade ago and now, following a recent in-depth review of its scheduled network, the airline will be flying to Tel Aviv and Ovda – the gateway to Eilat.

Monarch, the leading scheduled airline to leisure destinations, have announced additional routes to its winter schedule for 2015/16; on sale from Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, London Luton, London Gatwick and Manchester airports.
New financial leadership for Monarch following takeover
Monarch Group has announced the appointment of Barry Nightingale as group chief financial officer with effect from January 2015. He joins from the £9 billion-turnover Betfred Group of companies, where he has been chief financial officer since November 2008.
Here comes the snow: Monarch launches flights to Lyon for ski season
Monarch has continued its route overhaul with the launch of new services from London Gatwick Airport to Lyon as part of its winter ski programme for 2014/15. The flights, which will start on December 27th and operate until April 11th, are on sale now. Some of the best French ski resorts are located within three hours of Lyon Airport and with the flight departing Gatwick at 07:10 in the morning meaning keen skiers can be on the slopes just after lunch.
Monarch Airlines completes £3.2bn Boeing order
Monarch Airlines today announced the confirmation of a narrow body fleet order with Boeing for a new generation fleet of 30 737 MAX 8s, worth more than $3.2 billion at current list prices. The order, originally announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, includes options for 15 additional 737 MAX 8s and marks the beginning of Monarch’s transition to an all-Boeing single-aisle fleet.
Monarch Airlines sees 700 job losses as Greybull Capital takes over
Monarch Airlines has confirmed it will cut 700 positions as the battle to save the company continues. Staff have agreed to the redundancies, along with pay cuts of around 30 per cent, as the Luton-based carrier struggles to stay afloat. Earlier the Mantegazza family, which has owned Monarch since the 1960s, agreed to sell the carrier to Greybull Capital.
Monarch selects Greybull Capital as preferred bidder
The board of Monarch Holdings has announced today that Greybull Capital has been selected as the preferred bidder to acquire Monarch from the group’s shareholders, principally the Mantegazza family. Greybull is a family office with a focus on investing in private companies across a diversified range of industry sectors.
Monarch Airlines to pull out of East Midlands as restructuring continues
Monarch Airlines will cease flying from its base at East Midlands Airport by the end of April 2015. The decision to close the base is part of a strategic review under the leadership of Andrew Swaffield, who was recently appointed chief executive of Monarch Group.
Monarch Airlines links with Boeing for fleet modernisation at Farnborough
Boeing and Monarch Airlines today announced that the two companies are finalising terms and working towards a Purchase Agreement for 30 737 MAX 8s, marking the start of a fleet transition for Monarch to Boeing single-aisle airplanes. The order, valued at $3.1 billion at current list prices, will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website complete.
Tobago receives double airlift boost
The Tobago House of Assembly has revealed an increase in the winter flight services of both British Airways and Monarch Airlines. As of October 26th, two additional BA flights will operate via Antigua to the island of Tobago, increasing capacity on the route by 100 per cent to meet demand. This is closely followed by an additional direct weekly Monarch Airlines flight, which commences on December 16th 2014.
