Leading global hotel operator Marriott International said earlier it is on track to have 4,000 hotels in 90 countries across its 14-brand lodging portfolio by 2014. With 115,000 hotel rooms in its development pipeline, it could open between 90,000 and 105,000 new rooms around the world in 2012 through 2014, not including the planned Gaylord acquisition.
As Marriott International continues its expansion throughout Europe, the company has announced plans to open a second hotel in Bucharest, the 147-room Courtyard by Marriott Bucharest. The hotel will operate under a management agreement with Gica Popescu Hotels and is expected to open in early 2014.

Marriott International has announced it has reached the milestone figure of 250 open and signed hotels in Asia, with the 250th hotel to be located in Bo’ao in China. This represents 129 open hotels plus a development pipeline of 121 projects - totalling more than 75,000 rooms in 15 countries.
Marriott chief executive officer, Arne Sorenson, has voiced his ongoing support for the tourism industry and said travel has a significant impact on the economy of the United States. “Tourism creates $1.9 trillion in economic activity and 14.4 million jobs,” said Sorenson at the Bisnow Lodging Investment Summit.

Marriott International’s signature brand, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, announced today plans to open a new 170-room Marriott Hotel in Cali in 2014, under an agreement with Real Hotels and Resorts, S.A. and Grupo Poma.

Marriott has announced a new addition to its global Marriott Hotels & Resorts portfolio, the 216-room Krasnoyarsk Marriott Hotel in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The hotel, which will be operated under a management agreement with OAO Krepost Hotel, is scheduled to open in late 2014.
