St. Regis Vommuli Resort set for 2016 opening in Maldives
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has confirmed the signing of an agreement with Residency Resorts Malé to debut the renowned St. Regis brand in the Maldives. Residency Resorts is part of the Chennai-based property developer, Appaswamy Group. Set to open in 2016, The St. Regis Vommuli Resort, Maldives will bring the brand’s hallmark luxury services to one of the world’s most magnificent destinations, ideally situated on the private Vommuli Island in the Dhaalu Atoll.
Maldives reports increase in UK visitor numbers
Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation has announced an increase in visitor arrivals from the UK, with the latest 2015 figures revealing an eight per cent increase in UK tourists during the first three months of 2015. This equates to 25,158 UK tourists visiting the Maldives compared to 23,297 in 2014. In addition to a rise in visitor figures, the Maldives will also be expanding its tourism infrastructure during 2015, including a number of new hotel developments and the introduction of a new luxury seaplane transfer from Male to Dhonakulhi Island.
Maldives reaches out to Indian visitors with new advertising campaign
Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation has tied up with PVR Cinemas pan-India for a two-week video campaign that will run in all major cinema halls of the PVR auditoriums. The promotion had been timed around the beginning of the summer holiday season in India to catch the attention of the holidaymakers; and during the release of the major blockbusters PIKU and Bombay Velvet.
Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa introduces luxury seaplane transfers in the Maldives
Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is set to introduce luxury seaplane transfers from Malé International Airport direct to the crescent-shaped Dhonakulhi Island in the north of the Maldives. The seaplane service is the result of a new partnership with Trans Maldivian Airways; provider of the world’s largest seaplane fleet. Three flights will be provided daily with prices starting from $650 per adult and $325 per child for return transfers.

A unique series of man-made floating islands - called the 5 Lagoons Project – have begun to take shape in Maldives, which will be a series of almost 1,300 islands in the Indian Ocean. The floating islands are part of a joint project that many hope will be the solution to the impending environmental crisis the islands could face over the next 50 years.
Emirates to launch third daily flight to Malé, Maldives
Emirates has announced a third daily service to Malé, the capital of the Maldives. Commencing Monday, December 1st, Emirates flight EK656 will depart Dubai International Airport at 02:10, and arrive in Malé at 07:15, adding seven more inbound flights a week to the Maldives, increasing passenger and cargo capacity on the route by a third.
