London City Airport has announced chief executive, Richard Gooding, is to step down from the role after 15 years and join the board as a non-executive director. Declan Collier, currently chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority, will assume the role.
London City Airport, the capital’s only airport with a London postcode, is preparing for its busiest year yet in 2012 as London continues to move east and puts the airport on the doorstep of the city’s newest developments.
London City Airport’s on-time performance continues to beat all other UK airports. Statistics recently published by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) marked London City Airport’s arriving and departing scheduled services at 89% on time, three percentage points higher than any other major UK Airport.
Joanna will start her role on 1 September 2011 and will report directly into Chief Finance Officer, Patrick Burrows.
London City Airport is launching a multimillion refit of its terminal building early next year. The project, which is due to be completed next year, will expand the departure area and also increase the number of security channels. The move has been prompted by the number of passengers booking online and skipping check-in and going straight to security.
London City Airport has been given the green light by its local council to raise its flights from 80,000 to 120,000 by the end of next year. The expansion is expected to generate £26 million for the local economy as well as creating of 957 jobs.The Borough of Newham said it had agreed to the 50 percent increase in the number of flights, despite objections from environmentalists over the increase in volume of greenhouse gases.
