The cost and complexity of the Schengen zone tourist visa process is losing the European tourism industry an estimated $1 billion a year from the Indian market, preliminary findings from European Tourism Association Visa Impact Survey have revealed.
The Icelandic government has published proposals to raise the value added tax (VAT) on accommodation, restaurant meals and attractions from 7.0% to 25.5% as of the 1st May 2013. This proposal more than trebles the tax on all those services that tourists need to purchase.
