Proposed hotel tax increase extremely damaging to Iceland’s tourism prospects
The Icelandic government has published proposals to raise the value added tax (VAT) on accommodation, restaurant meals and attractions from 7.0% to 25.5% as of the 1st May 2013. This proposal more than trebles the tax on all those services that tourists need to purchase.
New event launched to attract top overseas tourism buyers to UK
The European Tour Operators Association and UKinbound have joined forces with VisitBritain to deliver a unique business-to-business event in 2012. The VisitBritain Hosted Buyers Marketplace is an exclusive opportunity for British tourism suppliers and destinations to meet and do business with 150 specially selected international buyers from some 20 countries being brought over and hosted by VisitBritain for the occasion.
European tourism buyers expect an olympic slump, with London 30% down
The European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) ran a snapshot survey of 200 leading tour-operator buyers at its annual Global European Marketplace on Friday asking what effect they estimated the Olympics would have on their business in 2012 compared with 2011 in the top European inbound destinations.
New group tourism charter is widely welcomed
The launch of the European Tour Operators Association’s (ETOA) Charter for Successful Tourism in conjunction with European Cities Marketing (ECM) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) was warmly welcomed by the tourism industry and government alike at a meeting that took place in Brussels today.
