Egypt backtracks on visa on arrival changes for British travellers
Officials in Egypt have backtracked on plans to stop British tourists visiting the country from obtaining visas on arrival. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had originally revealed plans requiring Britons travelling alone, that is outside of organised tours, to apply for a visa before travel from May 15th.
Egypt to sponsor registration at World Travel Market
World Travel Market has confirmed the Egyptian State Tourism Office will sponsor the registration for World Travel Market 2014. The sponsorship is part of Egypt’s marketing campaign for the UK, one of its most important inbound markets. Egypt’s logo and its tag line “Where it all begins…” will appear on all online and direct mail promotional materials.
Scores killed as buses collide outside Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt
Two tour buses have collided near the popular tourist destination of Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, leaving 33 people dead and 41 injured. Ukrainian, Saudi and Yemeni citizens are said to be among the injured.
Egypt seeks transparency in social media
In a bid to engage with fans of Egypt, the ETA has launched its official UK Facebook page. Offering fans the opportunity to discover the real Egypt, from rural and city retreats, to local arts, crafts and festivals, LoveEgyptUK will, among other things, provide travel information, updates and tips for planning a holiday to Egypt.
Egypt urges tourists to look beyond Cairo
Visiting London, Egypt’s minister of tourism, Hisham Zaazou, spoke frankly of the challenges Egypt has faced during the last three years and continues to tackle moving forward. “The issues we continue to face on the path to democracy are ‘Egyptian-on-Egyptian’ in their nature and are focused solely in our capital Cairo,” stated Zaazou.
Tourists urged to look beyond Egyptian capital troubles
Following the positive news regarding the Foreign & Commonwealth Office lifting its advice against all but essential travel to the whole of Egypt, the recent incidents in Cairo surrounding the third anniversary of the uprising, should not overshadow Egypt’s world class appeal as a tourist destination, argues the national tourist board. “While there have been incidents in Cairo, they have been in Cairo alone,” explained Omayma El Husseini, Egyptian Tourism Board Director, UK & Ireland.

Egypt takes step toward recovery as FCO updates travel advice
Following the positive news on November 8th 2013 when the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office lifted its advice against all but essential travel to the whole of Egypt, with the exception of the Red Sea, the FCO has now lifted the advisory against travel to Cairo. The travel advice changes follow restrictions that were lifted earlier this month to the popular tourist centres of Luxor and Aswan.
Rooster to promote Egyptian tourism in UK
Following a competitive pitch, the Egyptian Tourist Authority has selected Rooster PR for a 12 month contract to promote tourism to the country from the UK & Ireland. Rooster PR will raise awareness of Egypt and encourage travellers to return to the country in line with the stated travel advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
Alcohol sales banned during Islamic holidays in Egypt
Egyptian tourism minister Mounir Fakhry Abdel-Nour has confirmed the sale of alcohol will be banned during Islamic holidays. The decision marks an expansion of the long standing ban on the sale of intoxicating liquor during the holy month of Ramadan.
