Paris Air Show: “Hypersonic” jet to travel from Paris to New York in 90 minutes
EADS, the parent company of Airbus, is to unveil plans for a “hypersonic” plane that can fly twice the speed of Concorde on biofuel made from seaweed. The 3,125 mph jet will transport up to 100 passengers at more than four times the speed of sound, and fly from Paris to New York in under 90 minutes. Tests could start by 2020.
EADs warns on profits as Airbus orders slump
EADS, the parent company of Airbus, has warned that profit this year will be lower than expected as the deteriorating global economy and technical delays eat into margins and create fears over future orders.However the group reported a healthy set of figures for 2008 with a profit of 1.57bn euros in 2008, up from a loss of 446m euro loss in 2007.
