The new ships will join Calais Seaways on the service, enhancing DFDS’ daily schedule of sailings between Dover and Calais to up to 30 per day. When combined with DFDS’ three ferries on the Dover-Dunkirk route, DFDS will now operate the largest fleet on the Dover Strait, with up to 54 daily sailings to the two French ports.

DFDS has announced that an agreement between the staff representatives of SCOP-SeaFrance, Eurotunnel and DFDS, concerning the release of the Channel ferries Rodin and Berlioz, has been reached with the assistance of the French transport minister. As part of the agreement, DFDS is committing to the employment of 202 former SCOP-Seafrance employees in its French organisation.

DFDS Seaways is continuing to divert a fourth ship to its Dover-Dunkirk service for the 16th day in a row as on-going strike action by former MyFerryLink workers continues to prevent the company from operating a full service into Calais. Carsten Jensen, senior vice president and head of DFDS Seaways in the UK commented: “We would like to reassure all our customers that we are open for business on the Channel, with the Calais Seaways continuing to operate on the Dunkirk route alongside our three normal ships.”

Passenger at the Port of Calais continued to be hit by disruption this morning as a strike by ferry workers entered a third day. MyFerryLink workers walked out on Monday over the sale of the company’s ferries to the rival firm DFDS Seaways. The sale is expected to be completed tomorrow, when MyFerryLink will also cease operations.

Award-winning ferry operator, DFDS Seaways, has confirmed that it will be adding Stena Nordica to its Dover-Calais service. The new ship will bring DFDS Seaways’ Dover-France fleet back up to five ships and will replace Dieppe Seaways, which was returned to its owner at the end of November. The ferry will need to go into dry dock for a refit and rebrand before it can join Calais Seaways on the Dover-Calais service, but she is expected to be ready for business in the next couple of months.
