CLIA finds surging demand for cruising in Asia
The newly-formed Cruise Lines International Association bodies in south-east and north Asia today released initial findings from the new Asia Cruise Trends Project: “Analysis, Assessment, Appreciation.” The work follows on from the 2013 Asia Cruise Association White Paper: “Information, Intelligence, Insights.” Both projects have been conducted by CHART Management Consultants, a global expert in cruise tourism and strategy.
CLIA Europe urges Mediterranean cruise cooperation
CLIA Europe, the association representing Europe’s multibillion euro cruise industry, has once again reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to work with ports and port associations to ensure consistent representation of the cruise sector’s interests before public authorities and the media. Speaking in Barcelona at the opening session of Seatrade Med – the major biennial cruise event focused on the Mediterranean market, taking place this week – Pierfrancesco Vago, CLIA Europe’s chairman, said cooperation with port associations is key for the entire sector.
Cruise Lines International Association finds industry continues to grow
In the last decade, demand for cruising across the globe has increased 77 per cent, from 12 million to 21.3 million passengers. New data released by the Cruise Lines International Association show that worldwide, cruise industry expenditures generated $117 billion in total economic contributions, supporting the employment of 891,009 full-time equivalent employees with total wages of $38.47 billion.
Cruise industry contributes £2.5 billion to UK economy
The cruise industry’s contribution to the British economy grew substantially in 2013, as did the number of UK jobs it supports, according to a report released today by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

Cruise ships arrive back to European waters from winter routes
As the summer cruise season gets under way in Europe, 96 ships have sailed back to European waters from their winter routes in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and Asia. This brings the total fleet in the region this summer to 200 cruise ships, operated by 65 lines, serving at least 530 destinations stretching from the Mediterranean to the Arctic.
Europe celebrates five new cruise ships in four-month period
Europe celebrated the christenings of five new cruise ships in the last four months, as international cruise lines took delivery of new vessels built in European shipyards, Cruise Lines International Association announced. The five new ships, which represent a total investment of over €2 billion and carry a combined total 14,615 passengers, will significantly boost capacity.

CLIA names Thomas Fischetti chief financial officer
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced that it has named Thomas Fischetti to the position of chief financial officer, reporting to CLIA President and CEO Christine Duffy. His responsibilities for the global cruise industry trade association include financial management, accounting, contracting and internal controls, IT, human resources and oversight of the association’s facilities.

CLIA backs global effort to facilitate shore leave for crewmembers
These efforts are being made through a request that port States make provisions for crewmembers to be able to apply for visas upon arrival in port or very shortly before arrival if the port State requires a visa for shore leave.
ITB Berlin 2013: CLIA expands with national organisation in Germany
Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced the establishment of CLIA Germany at the world’s biggest tourism fair ITB Berlin 2013. The new national association will be headquartered in Hamburg and will be chaired by Michael Ungerer, CEO of AIDA Cruises. This follows CLIA’s Jan. 30 announcement of its expanded resources in Europe with CLIA Germany joining CLIA UK and Ireland and CLIA Netherlands as a part of CLIA’s newly established global structure.
