Atlantis, Paradise Island, joins Marriott Autograph Collection
Marriott International has revealed the iconic Atlantis, Paradise Island resort will become part of its Autograph Collection, a rapidly growing exclusive portfolio of over 60 independent hotels in key locations across the globe. Regarded as the premier destination resort in The Bahamas and Caribbean, the 3,400 room Atlantis, Paradise Island will operate under a franchise agreement with Marriott.
Dubai World takes control of Atlantis
Dubai World subsidiary Istithmar World is acquiring the remaining stake in the Atlantis hotel for $250 million. The company confirmed it has completed the purchase of Kerzner International Holdings Limited’s 50 percent interest in Atlantis, making it is the sole owner of the property.

Kerzner in talks to defer payments
Kerzner International Holdings, the company that built the Atlantis resorts in Dubai and the Bahamas, has been in talks with creditors in order to defer their debt repayments of $2.78bn which were due next month, according to reports.
Atlantis releases whale shark into ocean
Following a sustained campaign from environmentalists, the Atlantis resort in Dubai has released a captive whale shark back into the ocean. Sammy – a four metre female whale shark – was released back into the Arabian Gulf in conjunction with Atlantis Fish Husbandry Team.
Brad Pitt and Beckhams caught in new Dubai debt crisis
Brad Pitt and David Beckham are thought to be among those caught up in Dubai’s latest credit squeeze, as developer Nakheel has asked creditors for a six-month “standstill” on debt repayments totalling US$59 billion. The Dubai government has also called in accountants Deloitte to advise on restructuring the business, stoking fears that Nakheel will be unable to continue with the Palm Jumeirah, leaving one of Dubai’s landmark developments a construction site.
