Addressing the inaugural session of the seminar programme at Arabian Travel Market 2013, Emirates chairman and president of Dubai Civil Aviation, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasised how travel and tourism had become the bedrock of the Dubai economy over the past years since the event was inaugurated in May 1994. “Arabian Travel Market has played a significant role in the development of Dubai, underscoring its position as a highly attractive centre for exhibitions and events,” he said.

More than 25 ministers have taken part in the second annual UNWTO & Ministerial Forum at the Arabian Travel Market with delegates sharing their views on how to work together towards long-term aviation and tourism sector growth. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai, the event, entitled ‘Tourism & Aviation: Building a common agenda for growth’, was opened by UNWTO secretary-general, Taleb Rifai and Mark Walsh, portfolio director, Reed Travel Exhibitions, organiser of ATM.

PromPeru, the trade, tourism and investment office of Peru in Dubai will be present for the first time at ATM with a National Pavilion. Peru is ranked among the world’s ten most preferred destinations according to Ernst & Young, and Peru’s ministry of foreign trade and tourism has said that they expect a nine to ten percent increase in visitor arrivals in 2013.
