London’s Trocadero centre is to be turned into 500-room pod hotel offering budget rooms in the heart of town. The “Piccadilly Hotel” would be modelled on the Pod Hotel in New York. Accor has drawn up a plan to tackle the tough global hospitality market as it posted a 3.5 percent drop in 2008 operating profit, which was in line with forecasts.The measures amounted to a “battle plan to face a difficult environment” after “the effects of the global economic downturn quickly spread to the hotels business, especially in the fourth quarter,” Accor said in a statement.
