The escalation of the Middle East conflict has triggered diverse and sharp drops in travel security perception across Gulf destinations, prompting early signs of demand diversion among European and US travellers towards closer-to-home and long-haul alternatives, according to latest analysis of Mabrian (part of Almawave - Almaviva Group). US travellers are particularly sensitive to security concerns, while neighbouring destinations such as Egypt, Türkiye, and Jordan are feeling spillover effects on traveller confidence.

Emerging destinations in lesser-known regions across Europe—from Northern Italy, Spain, and Portugal to Southern Finland and Poland—are attracting growing interest from overseas travellers, helping to drive both seasonal and geographic dispersion of European tourism. As these alternative destinations increasingly capture overseas demand focused on nature-based experiences, primarily during shoulder seasons, they are contributing to a more balanced distribution of visitor flows, according to new research presented by Mabrian and Data Appeal at the 11th European Travel Commission (ETC) Annual Meeting in Pärnu, Estonia.

Cultural and gastronomic experiences lead demand among American travellers, according to the report Mapping Activities and Experiences Supply and Demand in Spain*, which also highlights the high level of satisfaction these tourists express regarding the leisure activities they enjoy during their visits to Spanish destinations.

The study, prepared by Mabrian, the global travel intelligence and tourism advisory partner, analyses the supply of tourist activities and experiences in Spain and the interests of demand for these types of products, leveraging data from Civitatis and GetYourGuide, the main online experiences sites.
Spain, a Destination for Cultural, Nature, and Gastronomic Activities and Experiences

Cultural activities remain the star product in Spain’s tourism offering, although travellers—especially international visitors—show strong interest in active tourism, nature, and gastronomy. This is one of the main conclusions of the report Radiografía de la oferta y demanda de actividades y experiencias en España (Mapping Activities and Experiences Supply and Demand in Spain), presented at the 5th Turespaña Convention in Cáceres by Mabrian, the global travel intelligence and tourism advisory partner.

This is the first study to provide a comprehensive analysis of the online market for tourist activities in Spain. For this report (available for free download), Mabrian examined supply and demand trends for experiences marketed through major online activity platforms (Civitatis and GetYourGuide) across Spain’s 17 autonomous communities, using data from June, July, and August 2025.

More than 1.1 million Spain’s tourist rental beds could be removed from the market this August

More than 1.1 million tourist rental beds in Spain could become unavailable starting this next August if the mandatory registrations in the Spanish National Registry for Tourist and Seasonal Rentals, introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, are not completed. This would require online platforms to remove listings that do not include the Rental Registration Number (NRA, for its acronym in Spanish). These beds represent 87% of the total national short-term rental (STR) offering active in Spain this summer, as of July 15.

Mabrian, the global travel intelligence and tourism advisory partner, reached this conclusion after analysing how Spain’s accommodation supply could be impacted by the recently announced agreement between the Ministry and Airbnb, which obliges the platform to remove all listings that do not include the NRA as of August 1, following a 10-business-day grace period after hosts are notified to update their listings accordingly.
