Scissor Sisters bring flamboyant live show to Abu Dhabi

The chart topping Scissor Sisters will be bringing their widely loved and infectious dance floor anthems to Yas Island Abu Dhabi at the FLASH Forum on January 12th.

FLASH Entertainment has announced tickets for the Grammy-nominated band will go on sale today and are expecting fans right across the region to snap them up well ahead of their Middle East debut.

The New York duo will be joined by MOBO award & Mercury Music Prize winning singer, Ms. Dynamite, who is revered for introducing UK garage music to the mainstream with her 2002 debut album, A Little Deeper.

Known for their humorous and often controversial performances, the Scissor Sisters’ unique mix of disco, electro and good old fashioned Elton John-era rock n’ roll is widely loved right across the globe.

Shatha Al Romaithi, FLASH Entertainment spokesperson, said: “Scissor Sisters have a huge following and they are known to appeal to just about all music lovers out there.

“We are very excited to be bringing them to Abu Dhabi and the region for the very first time. We are expecting an incredible performance.”

The band, which was founded in 2000, sprung out of downtown New York clubs and Brooklyn, a launch pad for the modern electroclash sound.

Led by vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, along with multi-instrumentalist ‘Babydaddy’ and lead guitar Del Marquis, the heart of the Scissor Sisters is shaped around the exuberance of nightlife.

Since launching, their success has spilled out far past the New York club scene and into the global mainstream.

The band’s debut album became an international smash — eventually scoring a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Record for ‘Comfortably Numb’, becoming the top-selling album of 2004 in the UK and sweeping the Brit Awards for that year.

Despite becoming chart toppers and festival headliners throughout the world, the Scissor Sisters have never turned away from the all-inclusive magic of their former downtown stomping ground.

They have filled venues from New York’s Bowery Ballroom to London’s O2 Arena and in 2010 stole the show at Glastonbury when they performed a duet with Kylie Minogue for their single “Any Which Way”.

The show will take place at the FLASH Forum on Yas Island, with doors opening at 21:00.

Yas Island is fast becoming one of the region’s hottest entertainment destinations, attracting various international talent to the Capital as well as entertainment lovers locally and from across the region.
