Queenstown guest nights remain steady
Queenstown’s August visitor numbers were on a par with the same month last year according to research released this October. Statistics New Zealand’s latest Commercial Accommodation Monitor (CAM) showed that Queenstown’s August 2012 figures were similar to August 2011, with a small overall guest night increase of 0.2 percent to 246,359.
International guest nights were almost unchanged at 165,640 and domestic guest nights increased 0.6 percent to 80,719 for the same period.
Holiday parks showed the most improvement compared to August 2011 with a 13.1 percent increase in visitor nights.
Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd said the result was reasonably pleasing compared to the national picture which showed a decline of 9.2 percent.
“It was a satisfactory result considering we had a few seasonal challenges this year. With a choice of several ski areas as well as a huge range of world-class activities, visitors to Queenstown could enjoy a great winter alpine holiday experience.”
