Thailand-based, ONYX Hospitality Group has been appointed to operate a 134-room property in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Amari Dhaka is owned by Karishma Services and will be managed by ONYX under their upscale Amari brand.

Located in the Business District of Gulshan, Amari Dhaka is scheduled to open in 2014.

A Breeze Spa, gym and rooftop swimming pool will also be provided for guests and visitors. Amari Dhaka is easily accessible for business travellers and located 5km from Dhaka International Airport. Numerous multinational companies, office complexes, embassies and high-end residences are located near Amari Dhaka.

Dhaka is one of the largest cities in South Asia and is both the capital city and major industrial centre of Bangladesh, strategically located between India and Myanmar.

The close proximity to China, Singapore, India and Thailand enhances the strategic importance of Bangladesh as a country with a rapidly growing economy supported primarily by manufacturing and textile production.

ONYX chief executive, Peter Henley, said: “We are very excited to be in a position to announce our first property development in Bangladesh and delighted to be working with Karishma Services to open this wonderful Amari property in Dhaka. Bangladesh has a thriving economy and the country’s GDP is experiencing sustainable growth, particularly in the textile manufacturing, financial and telecommunications sectors which has resulted in strong demand for high quality hotel accommodation.

“We have an owner with a great vision and drive to make this a truly stunning hotel in a great location.

“As a Thai company, having a presence in countries with close proximity to our home base has always been a priority for us.

“Amari has become a household name in Thailand and we look forward to building that level of brand recognition in Bangladesh.”
