Madeira Boosts Winter Connectivity and Unveils Exciting Developments for 2025

Madeira is enhancing its accessibility and appeal in 2025 with exciting updates for UK travellers. This winter, British Airways and Jet2 have reintroduced previously suspended routes, with Jet2 also launching a new service from Liverpool. Alongside expanded connectivity, the island will welcome the Romanticism Museum, which delves into its 19th-century heritage and a new luxury hotel, The Editory by the Sea Funchal.
Winter connectivity
Madeira is even more accessible to UK holidaymakers this winter, with British Airways and Jet2 resuming previously suspended services and the latter introducing a new route.
British Airways is operating flights from London Gatwick (LGW) to Funchal (FNC), a route that had been suspended since March 2020 and now replaces the previous London Heathrow (LHR) to Funchal service. Jet2 has also resumed its weekly flights from Belfast (BFS), a route last operated in November 2019, and launched a new weekly service from Liverpool this winter.
These new services signal Madeira’s continued air connectivity growth, offering more convenient options for UK travellers looking to explore the island’s stunning landscapes, vibrant culture and year-round appeal.

New museum set to open in 2025
Madeira is set to welcome the Romanticism Museum this year. Located at Quinta dos Jardins do Imperador in Monte, the new museum aims to showcase the island’s 19th-century history, from its tourism development to the illustrious travellers who visited, as well as the unique way in which European Romantic culture was experienced in Madeira. The museum will feature a scientific programme focused on reconstructing a 19th-century Madeira house, reflecting the dominant English aesthetic of the time and the influence of the Wine Merchants and the Madeira Wine Trade.
New five-star hotel to open
The Editory by the Sea Funchal is set to open in Madeira’s capital later this year. This new five-star property will feature 98 elegantly designed rooms, offering guests a blend of luxury and comfort with stunning views and exceptional amenities.
