Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa celebrates Soller’s Orange Harvest

This June, the Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa, located on the rugged northwest coast of Mallorca, plans to celebrate one of the most popular and important events in the Soller Valley; the festival of the orange harvest.

Known as the Fira de la Taronja, the festival celebrates Soller’s production of the orange, a fruit which has brought much trade and prosperity to the area. From 1st to 16th June, Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel will join in the festivities by offering a special tasting menu priced at only 23€. Featuring the local Canoneta orange at the heart of every dish, hotel guests can enjoy three delicious courses made of the freshest ingredients; including shrimp, Serrano ham, and crème brûlée for dessert.

Guests can also treat themselves to the Orange Blossom Day Spa Package at the hotel’s luxurious Talise Spa. At the serene sanctuary, orange blossom and orange extracts will transport guests to a world of Mediterranean scents through treatments and tastings. Starting with a revitalising massage, cleansing techniques will help to prepare the body for summer before enjoying a tempting tasting menu at Cap Roig; one of the must-visit restaurants of the region. Exclusively created for the occasion, all dishes feature a touch of the orange blossom so evocative of the region. The Orange Blossom Day Spa Package is priced at 160 euros per person.

Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa crowns a cliff overlooking the Port of Sóller and enjoys extensive sea views on one side, with a backdrop of the Tramuntana mountains – recently declared a UNESCO Heritage Site – on the other. In between lies the wide valley with extensive Canoneta orange orchards; a species believed to have originated in the Sóller vicinity more than 700 years ago, and a favourite of Louis XIV.

The hotel will be providing fresh oranges to all guests during the festival period, recognising that while oranges are part of everyday life in Soller, they will prove a real treat for many visitors. The orange crop is managed by the local farmers’ co-operative of Sant Sebastia, and the hotel will be organising visits for clients who wish to observe the process of grading and selecting the fruit for market. Orange marmalade is also produced in the hotel’s own kitchens, and in its Barbaroja Kids Club one of the many activities will be designing fun labels for the jars.
