Europcar helps customers drive mean and green

With the price of unleaded petrol now over £1 a litre, Europcar, voted the world’s leading car hire company at the World Travel Awards, is helping customers focus on both fuel efficiency and more eco-friendly driving.  Europcar has become the first car hire firm to give customers information on average CO2 emissions for each car group as part of its online fleet guide at www.europcar.co.uk.

Now, when customers log on to www.europcar.co.uk to book a vehicle, they can quickly make an assessment of the impact of their rental on the environment as well as the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.  The lowest emissions group features average 130gms CO2 emissions vehicles.  This typically includes mini three-door hatchbacks, such as the Ford Ka. The highest group comprises 230gms emissions vehicles such as executive saloon automatic estates including the Saab 9-5 and the Volvo V70.

Catriona Lougher, Marketing Director for Europcar said: ?With cost cutting at the top of the Agenda for many UK households and businesses, using cars that are more fuel efficient has got to be a key priority.  This initiative is in keeping with Europcar?s ?Environmental Charter? and means our customers can make more informed choices about the vehicles they rent and, as a result, help them reduce fuel consumption and contribute to an overall reduction in CO2 emissions.

?After the certification of our Environmental Charter by Bureau Veritas in June 2008 and the creation of our carbon-offset program in Europe, this latest measure further demonstrates Europcar?s commitment to sustainable development.?
