Amadeus hits UK e-ticketing milestone

Amadeus has implemented e-ticketing for 150 airlines serving the UK. This week Silverjet, the UK business class airline, was the latest carrier to implement e-ticketing for Amadeus users in the UK, making it the 150th airline to do so.

Amadeus is the world leader in airline electronic ticketing, having enabled e-ticketing for 247 airlines in 146 markets.  In the last six months in the UK alone, Amadeus has added a total of 30 airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, Flybe, and now Silverjet.

Elaine Seeto, Director of Marketing for Amadeus UK & Ireland, said: “We are extremely proud to be working with such a large number of airlines that have succeeded in meeting IATA’s 100 per cent e-ticketing deadline of 31st May 2008. 150 airlines represents around 82 per cent of all UK BSP carriers so this is a significant milestone for travel agents and for their customers who benefit from a more streamlined airport experience - including the facility of self-service check-in where offered.  Our e-ticketing solution also allows agents to minimise costs by reducing paper usage and storage whilst enabling significant cost-savings on delivery charges for last minute tickets. E-ticketing also enables agents to offer a paperless solution, resulting in a more environmentally-friendly operation.”

The 2007 Airline IT Trends Survey, conducted for the ninth year by SITA together with Airline Business magazine, suggested that the proportion of ticket sales fulfilled as e-tickets by the end of 2007 would reach 86 per cent. Amadeus’ own figures show that globally, 87 per cent of tickets issued through Amadeus are now Electronic.
