Bliss Opens At The W San Francisco

Starwood continues its expansion of Bliss Spas with the debut of its first West Coast Spa, Bliss San Francisco at the W San Francisco Hotel.
Starwood acquired cosmetic, spa and catalog company Bliss from luxury goods conglomerate LVMH in January 2004. The hotel giant announced its intention to grow the innovative spa brand, a favorite of celebrities, fashion and beauty executives, in its existing and new W Hotels. With the addition of Bliss San Francisco, there are currently five Bliss Spas worldwide including BlissSoho, Bliss57, BlissLondon in the United Kingdom and Bliss49 at the W New York which opened late last year. Additional Bliss Spas are scheduled to open at W Hotels in Chicago in 2005 and Los Angeles and Dallas in 2006.

Located at the W San Francisco, the new 5,000 square foot Bliss Spa features a retail beauty boutique and a high tech manicure pedicure lounge with three manicure pedicure stations. Each nail station is equipped with its own flat screen TV, DVD player and earphones and a conveyor belt transports sterilized nail tools. The main spa facilities house eight treatment rooms, a women’s locker room and lounge, a men’s locker room and lounge, and a menu of facial, massage, body treatment, waxing and nail services. New, San Francisco-specific offerings include personalized grass-tiled steam showers and heated outdoor terraces. W San Francisco Hotel guests will receive priority booking.

Bliss kicked off its San Francisco debut by offering San Francisco Mayor Newsom the key to Bliss and asking him to help give away a week’s worth of complimentary services. Mayor Newsom accepted and helped Bliss connect with its new community by inviting over 200 San Francisco public school teachers to experience free facials, massages, manicures and pedicures.

“With the opening of Bliss San Francisco, we will be able to extend our spa offering to a vital new urban market as well as to enhance the W Hotel guest experience outside of New York City,” stated Tyler Morse - President, Bliss. “Our goal is to deliver customers the best possible spa experience imaginable and we look forward to rolling out similar regional programs as we expand to Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and beyond.”

Founded in 1996 and often credited with kick-starting the urban day spa boom in the late1990’s, Bliss provides exceptional spa services in an uncontrived, “no-attitude” atmosphere. The Triple Oxygen Treatment facial, upbeat music, wine and brownie buffet, witty treatment names and an A-list celebrity clientele, are just a few of the signature elements Bliss is famous for. The company retails its Bliss line of bath, body and skincare products through its Bliss beauty by mail Catalog, Blissworld.com web site and at international retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Sephora, Saks, Harrod’s, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges. Bliss launched an exclusive line of bath, body and skincare amenities at W Hotels in October 2004. For more information, please visit www.blissworld.com.
