FCO to Host Travel Industry Asia Long-Term Recovery Meeting

The Foreign and Commonwealth OfficeÊand the Travel Foundation are inviting industry leaders to attend an urgent Asia crisis recovery action meeting this month to discuss a united industry approach toÊcreating a long-term recovery campaign for tourism to Asia.The Asia Long-Term Recovery Action meeting will be held at the FCO offices in London on Monday 17 January from 4pm to 6pm.Ê Government ministers, representatives from the affected nations and other members of the travel industry will attendÊto discuss how the industry can help.

Sue Hurdle, director, said the Travel Foundation was cutting short a planned AGM in order to host the industry Asia Recovery Meeting.

“We’ve all be shaken and moved byÊthe catastrophic events in Asia,” she said.Ê“AndÊpeople and organisations within theÊtravel industry have already responded with generous donations.ÊÊBut,Êhuge swathes of the worldÊwe visit will also require our long-term support to rebuild tourism and help bring much needed income to their shores. This meeting will give people the opportunity to listen to the affected countries and debate how a united travel industry could make a difference. We urgently need to hear from people within the travel industry to help make long term tourism recovery a reality.”
